The area which covers the whole of the southwestern part of Fuerteventura is called Jandia.

Most of this peninsula is covered by mountains and is pretty sparse in vegetation. Jandia boasts the tallest mountain on Fuerteventura 'Pico de Jandía' or 'Pico de la Zarza' which is around 800m high.

The beaches of Jandia and Sotavento in the south are undoubtedly some of the best on the island.
If you are planning on hiring a car this place is well worth a visit. Here you can stroll all the way along the coast (20km) passing endless lagoons and dunes.

With the trade winds blowing the whole year round from the Northwest, this is a windsurfing paradise, so much so the P.W.A. World windsurfing speed and vslalom event is held here every August bringing in the cream of the windsurfing world.

Along this massive stretch of beach you'll also find many resorts, bars and water sports areas.

A large percentage of tourists in Jandia are German, but there are also plenty of Spanish bars and restaurants and a few British owned.
It takes about an hour to reach Jandia from the airport.
